This piece reflects my ongoing exploration of cultural identity through the fusion of tradition and contemporary technique. The figure is adorned with Persian-inspired patterns and a golden earring, a symbol of heritage, femininity and strength. Painted in acrylic and marker, the work sits in the tension between East and West, and the quiet, personal ways cultural memory is carried forward.
I paint every chance I get. What I am chasing is a feeling, the kind you carry with you after meeting someone, and paint is the only language I have for it.
My work lives between two places. It grew out of my Persian heritage, from a time when I needed to find my culture again, and the more I missed it the more I made. Moving to Switzerland turned my portraits into abstraction and shifted the way I see identity. I resist labels, but sometimes I still need to name myself to feel less alone in a big world. These paintings are me stepping out of home, the world I know, and becoming a new person, holding the memory of all my homes at once.
